Head Start Needed

This article about birth in Bangladesh is pretty alarming: "Hard Start for Bangladesh Baby". And birth is most definitely not the last hurdle. I was speaking with Qamar Banu today, the woman who is basically the "mother-in-residence" for all of the girls. She told me that a lot of children in this country are very malnourished when they are young, and this is a big problem because then there are problems with their mental development. They have a difficult time with school later on in life, all because they did not have enough to eat when they were young.

  1. So, where do you begin in trying to develop an undeveloped country? This is so sad to realize that with all the "modern medical" knowledge there is, that people still cling to unfounded beliefs. I think that educating some of their own is probably the only way that change can happen. Kudos to you honey! You are making a difference!
    Love you! Mom

  2. Mmmm, we have our "unfounded" beliefs, too! Education is a big part of it, but resources are important too. Some people can't go to a hospital, even if they want to.

And I'm not doing anything here...just sharing :)

  3. Too bad the people in charge can't put aside their differences and work together. Unfortunately, many of the heads of countries are too busy amassing their own fortunes to care about the "little people". Same here in the U.S. with the materialism going on. Maybe someday...
I'm just glad you're you!! Love, Aunt J
